Comedian faces 18 months for drugs

JAKARTA: The prosecution demanded on Tuesday an 18-month jail term for comedian Barata Nugraha, famously known as Polo, at the East Jakarta District Court for illegal drug possession.

The defendant, a former member of comedy group Srimulat, has been charged for violating Article 62 of Law No. 5/1997 on psychotropic substances which carries a maximum sentence of five years' jail term.

The police discovered a small package containing 0.1103 gram of metamphetamine at a house where Polo was staying in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, last June.

Presiding judge Damsuri Nungtjik adjourned the trial to Oct. 14 to hear the defense's appeal. -- Antara
