Comedian Derry faces prison term

JAKARTA: Prosecutors sought on Tuesday a sentence of one-year in prison for comedian Derry Sudarisman, who was on trial at the Central Jakarta District Court for drug possession.

Derry was arrested in July, together with his friend Cha Chan in a room at Oasis Amir Hotel, Central Jakarta. The police confiscated a 0.30 gram package of shabu-shabu (crystal metamphetamine) as evidence.

During previous hearings, Derry claimed that the drugs belonged to a man named Iwan.

"He said he will be back for the package. I did inhale the shabu-shabu offered by Cha Chan, but that was only for the sake of friendship," he said.

Presiding judge Zainuddin adjourned the trial until next week to hear the defendant's plea. -- Antara
