Colorful war at cemeteries

YOGYAKARTA: People in the sultanate have accused the United Development Party (PPP) of being hypocritical over its attacks on Golkar for extending the color war to local cemeteries.

Last month PPP complained to the Purwokerto administration for painting the grave of an ancient Moslem propagator, Kyai Robosemangsang, yellow -- the color of Golkar.

The Moslem-oriented party's officials said that Central Java Governor Soewardi's "yellowization" campaign to help Golkar win the election was so blind that even a grave was painted yellow.

However on Wednesday people accused PPP of being hypocritical. A large banner bearing the inscription "PPP is good for both the living and the dead" was seen above a tomb. (38/pan)
