'CNN' to be encrypted

As most who watch CNN International would know, from Dec. 15, 1994 onwards the transmission on the Palapa B2P Satellite will be encrypted. In order to receive CNN International from Dec. 15 onwards, people will require a special receiver which costs around US$ 600 and will require a card which will have an annual fee of $545. This is a ridiculous price.

In the United States, subscription for 70 channels for one year is approximately $400 a year, whereas in order to obtain just CNN, TNT and The Cartoon Network, ESPN, HBO, and the Discovery Channel, it costs a total of $ 1,100 for the first year and $545 each additional year, not to mention the additional cost of purchasing a parabola.

CNN provides more than just the news. It provides a link between other nations and shows how unity exists in such a diverse world. In today's world a link is necessary because it provides information which in turn provides awareness which is beneficial for the future global goal of brotherhood among nations regardless of race or religion. By making the world a more open society it can in turn promote understanding and friendship among nations, and hope for a lasting peace for future generations. By encrypting this channel, the link is being broken. This price will deprive many Indonesians of this excellent service.
