Cleric jailed for hiding terrorist

JAKARTA: The South Jakarta District Court sentenced on Wednesday a Muslim cleric, Adung, to seven years' jail for harboring top terrorism suspect Noordin Moh. Top.

In a separate hearing, the same court also jailed a Malaysian national, Sabturani, for four years for helping to hide Noordin, who is still at large.

The panel of judges hearing Adung's case said the defendant had met with Noordin, a Malaysian national who is wanted for planning and executing a string of bomb attacks in the country between 2002 and 2004, but failed to report the meeting to police.

Police seized a revolver and 14 bullets when they arrested Adung in Surakarta last year.

Adung had first met Noordin in 1997 when he went to Malaysia to visit a family member who was studying there. -- Antara
