Cleaning service man 'commits suicide'

JAKARTA (JP): A cleaner at the Danamon building on the main thoroughfare of Jl. Sudirman in Central Jakarta was found dead on Tuesday afternoon on the roof of the seventh floor annex of the 33-story building.

But security guards at the building believe the victim, identified as 22-year-old Tony Gumbaya, committed suicide for an unknown reason by jumping from a window on the 14th floor of the building.

He died immediately.

"It was about 4:10 p.m., so everybody was still working in the building when suddenly some of us heard the sound of his body hitting the roof," Iwan, a security personnel at the building told The Jakarta Post.

"It was horrible. Judging from his wounds, it looked like the back of his head hit the roof first," Iwan recalled.

The guard said that Tony, who lived on Jl. Kebon Kacang, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, worked for cleaning service company PT Kuera, which was hired by the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency (IBRA), whose office is located at the building.

"There was talk that the man committed suicide following some stress," Tony added.

The body was admitted to the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital. (jaw)
