Clash erupts after failed extortion

BANDUNG, West Java: Bandung Kulon Police dispersed a fracas late on Tuesday near the Jl. Sudirman - Soekarno Hatta traffic circle, which all began after a thug was bopped by his victim.

Police held two men, one was identified as CC and suspected to be the extorter and then there was Thamrin, a foodstall owner, who was the suspect's victim.

Earlier, CC came to Thamrin's stall and demanded Rp 300,000, brandishing a chain, but his victim, sporting a delightful tatoo- covered body, got upset and hit CC.

The suspect then called on his crew for help. The mob then chased Thamrin, beat him up and then set upon his stall.

A local police officer confirmed the incident and said that the police had also managed, the same day, to arrest several hoodlums who often extorted money from traders in other areas. --Antara
