Civilian guards ready to protect election

BANDUNG: A top police officer said on Wednesday some 240,000 civilian guards in West Java, on top of 25,000 police and military personnel, were prepared to provide security during the Sept. 20 presidential election.

Insp. Gen. Edi Darnadi, the chief of the West Java Police, said some of the civilian guards would assist police and military personnel in guarding the some 82,000 polling stations throughout the province. -- JP
