Civil servants buy own uniforms

MUNA, Southeast Sulawesi: The provincial administration here will no longer allocate funds in 1998/1999 to provide civil servants with uniforms because the money will go instead to provide basic necessities.

"Even though the sum is relatively small, only about Rp 100 million per year, if it is allocated to help food security programs it will be very beneficial," Governor La Ode Kaimoeddin said.

As reported by Antara yesterday, the end to provincial government funds for uniforms does not mean civil servants will be free to wear whatever they like on official occasions.

"Civil servants in the Southeast Sulawesi administration should wear the uniform that they already own. If it is torn or cannot be worn anymore than they should buy a new one themselves," the governor remarked.
