Civil servants attitude

The different views expressed by senior officials regarding the attitude of civil servants have added to the confusion in the matter. I share former home minister Rudini's opinion that civil servants should not vote for PPP, Golkar or PDI. Civil servants should not side with any of the three parties because in their function they serve the nation's and the people's interest. They should not be subject to or affected by any future political change.

If civil servants remain neutral, the prolonged and endless debates on their attitude on voting will cease.

I concur with the opinion that Golkar is not a political party. It was initially meant to represent the civil service (group representatives) in the House of Representatives and the People's Consultative Assembly such as the Armed Forces and Regional Representatives.

Since the government has recognized PPP, Golkar and PDI as national assets, it should treat them on an equal basis, without any discrimination. Besides, the government should be transparent in fulfilling its tasks and duties in the interest of all people regardless of their politics.

I am quite aware that the above is not easy for the government to realize, but since it is logical and objective, and reflects mature thinking, it is worth considering to attain justice in both the political and economic fields.
