Civil servant gets 18-month prison term
PAREPARE, South Sulawesi: The Parepare District Court sentenced Hasanuddin, a 40-year old civil servant, to 18 months in prison on Thursday for consuming shabu-shabu (crystal amphetamine).
The defendant was found guilty of using the illegal drug while staying at a hotel in Parepare in South Sulawesi, chief judge Rosmina Agus told the courtroom.
Police arrested Hasanuddin in June last year with 0.5 grams of shabu-shabu and smoking paraphernalia.
Prosecutor Effendy hailed the sentence. The defendant plans to appeal against the verdict. --Antara
