City's major roads closed for 10K run

JAKARTA: The city police will close several main roads on Jan. 30 from 5:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. for a 10-kilometer fun run.

The Gema Nusa 10K will start at the National Monument (Monas), pass along Jl. M.H. Thamrin and Jl. Sudirman before making a U- turn in front of Atmajaya University and returning to Monas.

Jakarta Police traffic chief Sr. Comr. Djoko Waluyo said 50,000 people were expected to participate.

Officers will close Jl. Majapahit in Harmoni, Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat from Oteva, the fast lane of Jl. Thamrin from Hotel Indonesia and the fast lane of Jl. Sudirman from the Semanggi cloverleaf.

"We advise motorists who intend to travel in the area to take alternative roads to avoid heavy traffic," Djoko said. -- JP
