City tours urged in Surabaya
SURABAYA, East Java: A business executive suggested the city promote tours to spots other than industrial sites and shopping complexes, Antara reported yesterday.
Sutawi, chairman of the Association of Indonesian Travel Agencies, East Java chapter, said the 50-meter-high Jalesveva Jaya Mahe Monument, a symbol of pride for seafarers, in the Surabaya port of Tanjung Perak was a city asset.
Surabaya also has many museums, including a naval museum, and a planetarium, he said. Other attractions in "The City of Heroes", as Surabaya is known, include the Wonokromo Zoo, said to be the biggest in Southeast Asia, the Kalimas port for traditional vessels and the Kayoon flower market, he added.
