City to enlarge Pluit reservoir

JAKARTA: The Jakarta administration plans to deepen and enlarge the Pluit reservoir in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, next year, Tempointeraktif reported on Tuesday.

Governor Sutiyoso said that the 80-hectare reservoir was in need of attention as it was now filled with garbage brought in by the Ciliwung and Moocevard Daan Mogot rivers.

The garbage has often been the cause of flooding.

Besides the Pluit reservoir, the administration also plans to build a 100-hectare reservoir in Cibogo, Bogor Regency, that will store water from Cisadane and Ciliwung rivers before letting it flow to Jakarta.

Sutiyoso said that construction of the Cibogo reservoir would start in 2007. --JP
