City to audit PPMK funds

JAKARTA: The city administration will evaluate the subdistrict empowerment program (PPMK), which aims at helping subdistrict residents create small businesses.

"We will make a comprehensive evaluation of the implementation of PPMK. We will audit all funds that have already been disbursed for the program," said city secretary Ritola Tasmaya on Friday.

The program was introduced in 2002, with subdistricts getting Rp 250 million each. The city administration increased the funds to Rp 500 million in 2003, Rp 700 million in 2004 and Rp 1 billion in 2005.

The city, however, plans to cut the funds to Rp 500 million each next year.

The program, which is managed by the Subdistrict Council (Dekel), among other things gives non-interest loans to subdistrict residents to create or expand their businesses. --JP
