City recruits 850 ex-Kamra

JAKARTA (JP): At least 850 former members of the People's Security civilian guards (Kamra) have been employed by the Jakarta administrations as public order officers.

Deputy Governor for Administrative Affair Abdul Kahfi said on Wednesday that the new recruits were selected from around 2,000 former Kamra members, who had applied for a job to the City Public Order Office.

"The selection was based on their physical fitness and minimum education of junior high school," said Abdul.

The new officers had undergone a 10-day training with the City Public Order Office, Abdul added.

Abdul said the new recruits are now deployed for a joint operation with the city police to maintain security in the capital during a month-long festivities of Christmas, Idul Fitri, New Year and the annual exodus.

The new public order officers received a daily earnings of Rp 15,000, Abdul said, adding that they would get a monthly salary above the minimum regional wage of Rp 426,000, once the city administration completed the recruitment process of the former Kamra members. (07)
