City, PT Pusri to process trash

JAKARTA: Jakarta city administration will work in partnership with PT Pupuk Sriwijaya (Pusri) to process garbage into manure and other downstream products, such as recycled plastic bags and construction material.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) of the joint venture was signed on Wednesday by PT Pusri, the Jakarta city administration and PT Trihantoro, a consultant company that will perform a feasibility study for this project.

"If the feasibility study is completed within the next two months, we will start building our plants by the middle of this year," said Zainal Soedjais, president director of PT Pusri, as quoted by Antara.

Based on the MoU, they have agreed to build three plants, which, in total, cost Rp 150 billion (about US$1.7 million), or Rp 50 billion for each plant. Each of the plants will have the capacity to process 350,000 tons of garbage per year into manure.

For the first stage, they will build one plant and see the marketing prospect of the project.

Construction of the plants is financed by PT Pusri, the Jakarta city administration and PT Trihantoro, as well as other investors, said Soedjais.--JP
