City plans to tear Yabeka school down
JAKARTA (JP): The city administration plans to demolish a senior high school built on government property in Kalibata, South Jakarta, next week for failing to voluntarily vacate by the set deadline.
The administration had set a June 30 deadline for the management of the Yabeka high school to pack and leave to its new location in the southern outskirts of Jakarta.
Soenarjudardji, secretary to the chief of city welfare, said yesterday that the school will be demolished on July 13.
He added that the administration has every legal basis to take action and that he saw no problem with their course of action.
"We have repeatedly warned the school management to relocate their students to the new four-story building at Jl. Kahfi, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta," he said.
"We want to do it (the demolition) before the academic year begins," he said.
Some foundation executives contacted by The Jakarta Post yesterday said they were unaware of the demolition plan.(32)
