City-owned hotel opens in October

JAKARTA (JP): The grand opening of a new city-owned hotel, Hotel Cempaka Jakarta, will be held on Oct. 1, a few months after its soft opening, an official said.

Gito Bantas, the director of PT Wisata Niaga Jaya, a city- owned tourism firm, said yesterday the four-star hotel, located on Jl. Lt. Gen. Suprapto in Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, has 221 rooms.

Since its soft opening a few months ago, the hotel's occupancy rate has been about 40 percent, with rates ranging from US$110 to $400, he said, after reporting to Governor Surjadi Soedirdja.

Sixty percent of the 19-story hotel's guests are expected to comprise businesspeople, besides officials and tourists, Gito said.

The hotel, with a construction cost of Rp 47.5 billion (US$20.3 million), was completed in 18 months and built without outside cooperation, he added.

Other lodgings run by Wisata Niaga are the Cempaka 1 and 2 non-star hotels, the Cempaka Cottage in Plumpang, North Jakarta, and Hotel Kuta Jaya in Bali. (anr)
