City 'needs map of poor areas'

JAKARTA (JP): Deputy Governor for Welfare Affairs Djailani urged subdistrict heads throughout the city Saturday to prepare "maps" that contain data on poverty and unemployment.

Djailani said such maps were needed by the city administration to determine which areas needed food aid and to facilitate its "market operations" through which it sells essential commodities directly to poorer people.

"We hope the subdistrict heads can give the data correctly, so we can distribute the staple foods to the needy effectively," he said.

Djailani reiterated that the city administration would not forbid people from donating basic commodities to alleviate people's hardship during the economic crisis. (jun)
