City military chief installs two assistants
JAKARTA (JP): Jakarta Military Commander Maj. Gen. Sutiyoso said Thursday that Jakarta needed territorial personnel who could face all types of problems in the city.
"Personnel should know the geography, demography and social conditions to find solutions to problems," Sutiyoso said.
Sutiyoso made these comments while installing Col. Sutetyo as a new territorial assistant to the military command chief of staff to replace Col. Prabowo Suharto.
The two-star general also installed Lt. Col. Dody Sudarno as the new chief of the military's supervision and assignment department to replace Col. Darlan S.
Sutiyoso said territorial personnel should cooperate closely with people from various classes to create stable social conditions for the sake of national unity.
Meanwhile, city military command spokesman Lt. Col. DJ Nachrowi said Col. Prabowo would be installed as an education supervision director at the Military Academy in Magelang, Central Java.
Col. Darlan would be assigned as an intelligent assistant at the Sriwijaya Military Command in Palembang, South Sumatra, he said.
Nachrowi said that Col. Sutetyo was a former chief of the military veteran and reserves supervision body, and Lt. Col. Dody was a former territorial deputy assistant to the military chief of staff.
Sutiyoso officially closed the Students Personality Development Training Course at Graha Wisata Cibubur, East Jakarta on Thursday evening
He said in a written statement read by Col. Sutetyo, that senior high school students should be guided toward positive activities.
"Jakarta, with all its aspects as a dynamic metropolis, could affect students' attitudes and behavior," Sutiyoso said.
He said mobility, hero worship and high spirits could have a negative affect on students. "That's why students should be guided," he said.
He said he hoped the training course would increase student's discipline.
The course, which also aimed to create solid citizens for nation unity, was sponsored by the Jakarta Military Command in cooperation with the City Police, the University of Indonesia's School of Psychology, the city's sociopolitical affairs office and the Ministry of Education and Culture's city office.
The six-day course was attended by 131 students from 50 senior high schools throughout the city. (jun)
