JAKARTA (JP): Governor Surjadi Soedirdja honored two servicemen Friday, Danu Sisworo and Maryono, who died on duty on April 4.
Danu, a fireman from Central Jakarta Fire Department, was trapped in a fire for hours on the fourth floor of Harco Electronics Center in Mangga Dua, Central Jakarta. He died of suffocation and burns. Danu had been in the department for 26 years.
Maryono, a traffic policeman, died in an accident while patrolling.
The municipality awarded Danu's family Rp 1 million (US$410) from the city budget and Rp 13 million from the municipality employees' fund. Maryono's family received Rp 11,300,000.
The governor said the contribution, although small, would reflect the government's attention on the employees' welfare. (10)
