City govt plans integrated service in ID issuance
JAKARTA (JP): The city administration in cooperation with the West Java province next month will provide an integrated service for the issuance of identity cards for Jakarta's residents who have moved to Bogor, Tangerang or Bekasi.
The integrated service targets holders of Jakarta identity cards living in Bogor, Tangerang, and Bekasi.
Nearly three million Jakartans have moved to the three satellite cities. This is partly a result of the city's policy to encourage Jakarta residents to move to the regions.
"Most of the migrants have not bothered to apply for new identity cards," Soedarsono, the head supervisor of the City Office of Population Affairs, said yesterday.
He explained that people rarely report their change of address because they are also required to change other documents such as drivers' licenses, car ownership documents and health insurance cards.
Many of them, he said, were also apparently reluctant to apply for new identity cards, citing flimsy excuses such as being too busy. "Some of them even hold double identity cards."
Under existing regulations people are allowed to hold only one identity card.
Quicker
"The integrated services will provide identity cards for the migrants quicker, cheaper and more easily," Soedarsono told The Jakarta Post. It is primarily aimed at improving population administration services as well as increasing regional revenues for the administrations of Bogor, Bekasi, and Tangerang.
To apply for new identity cards, people are required to show their old identity cards and family cards to subdistrict offices. They also should submit three photos and fill in forms provided by the City Office of Population Affairs.
Officers of the subdistricts and local population agencies will arrange the issuance of new identity cards. The officers will work after hours to accommodate those who work.
The City Office of Population Affairs charges a Rp 1,000 fee for the change of address notification, while the amount of fees for new identity cards collected by the administrations of Bogor, Bekasi, and Tangerang depends on respective local regulations. (29)
