City abandons bus shelters
The city administration was criticized over the abandonment and the "disappearance" of many bus shelters in East Jakarta.
Jayakarta daily reported on Monday that many bus shelters in the mayoralty have not been treated properly, including one which is now being used as a waste dump on Jl. Otista Raya.
The daily said that there are at least two shelters which "vanished" along Jl. Raya Bekasi. One bus shelter nearly toppled over on Jl. Dewi Sartika in Cawang area.
The daily reported that the city administration chose to build new shelters rather than maintaining existing ones. The construction of each shelter costs around Rp 20 million (US$9,170) and the city has allocated Rp 500 million to build 25 new ones.(mas)
