Cituis to be model fishing village

TANGERANG: The Tangerang regency administration plans to transform 200 hectares of empty land near the Cituis River estuary in Surya Bahari village, Pakuhaji district, into a model fishing village as part of a pilot project.

"The Office of the State Minister for Settlement and Regional Infrastructure has confirmed the planned project," Nur Slamet, an official at the regency's spatial and building layout agency, said on Friday.

He said the project would not only include management of the village, but also would help the fishermen apply technology to their work.

The administration will cooperate on the project with businesspeople, who will buy goods from the fishermen.

"For the first phase, the administration will build infrastructure such as roads heading to and from Cituis," Nur said.

The state minister's office recently sent a team to the area to conduct a study, with the results to be used as a guide for implementing the project. -- JP
