Citizenship documents operation launched
The city administration is launching a city-wide operation on citizenship documents called Justice Operation Part II, from Sept. 26 to Oct. 13.
Soesila Darmoadji, a spokesman for the city administration, said over the weekend that the operation was meant to encourage Jakartans to carry their identification cards when they travel.
During the operation, which is usually done during daytime, a joint team, headed by the City Population Office, will stop passing vehicles, including private cars, to check their passengers' IDs.
Those who are caught traveling without ID are tried on the spot. "Those who are traveling without IDs can be ordered to pay a fine and can be sentenced to jail" Soesila said.
Bisnis Indonesia reported that Central Jakarta will have the citizenship operation from Sept. 26 to 27, North Jakarta from Sept. 28 to 29, West Jakarta from Oct. 3 to 4, South Jakarta from Oct. 10 to 11, and East Jakarta from Oct. 12 to 13. (09)
