Citigroup supports creative learning

JAKARTA: Philanthropic organization Citigroup Success Fund (CSF) allocated Rp 2 billion (US$222,223) this year to support 200 high school teachers in Jakarta, Bekasi, Tangerang, Surabaya, Bandung and Semarang who provide a creative-learning system for their students.

The program, conducted by Citibank, Hope Indonesia Foundation and the Jakarta middle and high school education agency, is aimed at reconstructing the paradigm that the teacher is the center of learning activities, Citigroup country officer for Indonesia Peter B Elliot said on Friday.

CSF received 550 proposals for creative-learning programs last year, 206 of which were made by 176 Jakarta teachers, said education agency head Margani M. Mustar.

"But only 61 of them were selected to receive the funds. We hope more of the teachers, as well as teachers at vocational schools and even lecturers, can join in the next program," he said. -- JP
