Cipulir bridge construction delayed

JAKARTA: The construction of a Rp 2 billion shopping bridge in Cipulir, Pesanggrahan subdistrict, South Jakarta, has been delayed until the end of December, following protests from local vendors.

Spokesman of the South Jakarta mayoralty, Jabintang Siboro, said that the project would start after the Idul Fitri holidays late this year, beritajakarta.com, the city's official website, reported on Monday.

The shopping bridge would connect the Cipulir market building with the Cipulir Plaza on Jl. Cileduk.

The project, however, has upset local traders, including the street vendors, as it has disrupted their business. The building materials for the construction of the bridge had simply been piled along the street, causing severe traffic jams. Last week, the vendors pulled out the corrugated iron sheets that had been erected by the city's public works officers to fence off the area where the bridge was to be built. --JP
