Cindana set to play Mia in Danish Open
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia's Cindana Hartono is expected to meet former compatriot Mia Audina, who now plays for the Netherlands, in the US$120,000 V6 Danish Open in Vejle, Denmark.
Cindana must eliminate Justina Wilmott of England in her first match on Thursday morning. If she wins, she is likely to meet Mia, who finished second in the Dutch Open two weeks ago.
Indonesian Open champion, Lidya Djaelawidjaja, has an easy task ahead of her in the first round as she meets qualifier Sun Jian of China.
"I have to be careful as Chinese players are good in technical skills despite the fact that she's a qualifier," she told The Jakarta Post in a telephone interview.
If she reaches the second round she will face the winner of the match between Kanako Yonekura of Japan and Tine Rasmussen of Denmark.
Ellen Angelina, the Indonesian Open runner-up, will face Neelima Choudary of India. If she wins, she is likely to face Mette Sorensen of Denmark, a semifinalist of the World Championships.
In the men's singles, third seeded Taufik Hidayat is likely to have no trouble overcoming Ville Kinkkunen of Finland while senior Hariyanto Arbi will face Abbhyn Shamm Gupta of India.
Giantkiller Marlev Mainaky is expected to eliminate Peter Janum of Denmark in his first match. Ronny Agustinus will face a tough challenge from Ji Xinpeng of China while Johan Hadikusuma will meet a qualifier.
Top seed Sun Jun of China, also the world champion, will meet a qualifier in the first round while home favorite Peter Gade Christensen is expected to overcome Jurgen Koch of Austria.
Men's doubles top seeds, Flandy Limpele and Eng Hian are likely to overcome Michael Logosz and Robert Matelsak of Poland. Second seededs Antonius and Denny Kantono are likely to work hard to win over Danish pair Lars Sorensen and Dennis Jensen.
Three national mixed doubles of Wahyu Agung and Emma Ermawati, Santoso Sugiharjo and Enny Widowati and Bambang Suprianto and Zelin Resiana will be competing on Wednesday evening. (yan)
