Cilincing to undergo facelift

JAKARTA: The slum area of North Jakarta, Cilincing, will undergo a facelift starting next year, the city's official news portal, Beritajakarta, reported on Saturday.

Improvements to the area will include the construction of low- cost apartments and industries that produce containers.

Cilincing is also one of the areas that will be affected by the ongoing construction of the East Flood Canal, which will help ease possible flooding in the northern part of the capital.

"Cilincing will be a better place for residents ... but only if they fully support the projects," Mayor Effendi Anas said. -- JP
