Cilacap needs more fishermen

CILACAP, Central Java: Cilacap regent Herry Tabri says the
area, which supplies Jakarta and other cities with a lot of their
fish, has jobs for 15,000 people in the fishery industry.

The current army of 15,000 fishermen in the area has tapped
barely half of the potential fish stocks from the waters off
Cilacap, Herry said yesterday.

Cilacap's fish markets sold more than 23 million kg of fish in
1997 with a turnover of Rp 37.8 billion (US$3.78 million), he
said.

The regency also boasts a flourishing shrimp industry, whose
output is largely exported, he said. (45)
