Cilacap has 111 landslide spots

CILACAP, Central Java: An expert has identified 111 villages in this 214-million-hectare regency that are prone to landslides.

Sutikno, an environment expert from the Directorate of Geology in Bandung, said on Monday that 49 unstable locations are in Cimanggu district, 22 in Dayeuhluhur district, 16 in Majenang district, 13 in both Jeruklegi and Karangpucung district, seven in Wanareja district and four in Sidareja district.

Last year landslides killed five people, destroyed 151 houses, heavily damaged another 370 homes and devastated 121 hectares of paddy fields, causing a total lost of Rp 3.5 billion (US$1.5 million).(wah/31)
