Cilacap airport to be expanded

SEMARANG, Central Java: Tunggul Wulung airport in Cilacap will soon be expanded to allow jets to land there.

The 600-meter runway will be lengthened by 300 meters so that planes the size of Fokker F-28s can land at Cilacap, a coastal city in the southern coast of Java which houses a major oil refinery complex.

Gatot Soedjantoko, head of the Central Java Transportation Office, said that work on the Rp 3.5 billion project is underway. It should be completed next year, he added.

The money will go to the construction of a new air terminal and various facilities, Gatot said. (arf)
