Cikarang to host national off-road race

JAKARTA (JP): No less than 100 drivers will pit their skills against the first leg of the national off-road series in Cikarang, West Java on June 1 and June 2.

Event coordinator, Pempy Soeworo, said yesterday that Indonesia's top 10 drivers have confirmed they will participate in the race which offers formidable tests on three special stages covering 12 kilometers.

"The likes of national top off-roaders James Sanger, Agus Budiman and Moko Harsono look set for a survival of the fittest bout during the race," Pempey predicted.

A total of Rp 10 million (US$4,300) in prize money is up for grabs in the two-day event, where participants will be pursuing both their individual and team pride.

Organizers of the off-road championships, jointly organized by Jababeka Group and the Indonesian Motor Association, split the participants into standard, modification, full modification and classic categories. The classic division is open only to cars over 21 years old.

Participating drivers will be given two days of official practice on May 29 and May 30. They can examine the track on May 31.
