Ciamis regent buys luxury car

CIAMIS, West Java: The local administration recently decided to furnish Regent H. Oma Sasmita Sumardi with a luxury car, a Toyota Land Cruiser, worth Rp 500 million (US$71,428), Antara said.

In a report that questioned the wisdom of the policy amid the economic crisis, the news agency said the car was bought from the 1999/2000 local administration budget.

The budget provides Rp 550 million for official cars rather than only one car for the regent. (swe)
