CIA chief confusion

According to Mr. Frank Richardson's second article The U.S.: A party to mass murder? in The Jakarta Post of Jan. 14, 2000, then CIA director William E. Colby was pleased with the abortive coup by the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) in 1965.

But was Colby the CIA director at the time?

The World Almanac and Book of Facts 1995 lists the CIA director in 1965 as John A. McCone or Adm. William F. Raborn Jr. Colby was the CIA director in 1973 when Richard M. Nixon was U.S. president.
