Chusnul questioned for two hours

JAKARTA: Chusnul Mar'iyah, a member of the General Elections Commission (KPU) overseeing IT-based ballot counting, was questioned for two hours at Jakarta Police Headquarters on Thursday.

She was questioned as a witness, over a defamation allegation filed by telecommunications observer Roy Suryo last month.

Roy had reported that Chusnul publicly accused him of selling data to presidential candidate Wiranto's campaign team during a seminar. She claimed she had obtained the information from a friend via a short message system (SMS) to her cell phone.

"The friend who sent me the SMS will be questioned next Friday," she said.

Lawyer Didi Irawadi Syamsuddin said the KPU had warned Roy to be careful about criticizing its IT management, as it might take legal action against him.

"Much of his criticism was based on weak data and questionable information," he said. -- JP
