Christine Hakim wins French award
JAKARTA: Actress Christine Hakim has won the Commandeur dans
L'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from the French government, the
highest award for art and literature given by the European
government.
The French Embassy in Indonesia said the award would be
presented on Thursday on behalf of the French Ministry of Culture
and Communications.
The award was given to Christine for her valuable contribution
to developing Indonesian film. Her most successful film was Daun
di Atas Bantal (Leaf above the Pillow), which has won several
international awards.
Since 1985, Christine has been a jurist on the panel at
several international film festivals, including the Cannes Film
Festival this year.
The Commandeur dans L'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres has been
awarded to a number of international artists, including Meryl
Streep, Robert Redford, Alain Delon and Jeanne Moreau. --Antara
