Choreography competition

JAKARTA (JP): Gedung Kesenian Jakarta (GKJ), the Jakarta Performing Arts Theater, will hold a dance choreography competition from Aug. 1 to Aug. 5.

Vice chairman of GKJ, Husein Wijaya, told a press conference yesterday that the competition was mainly aimed at seeking new talent from the Indonesian dance world.

Husein said about 94 dance groups from throughout the country would participate at the competition.

"I know it'll be difficult to judge the creativity of the participants, but we'll do our best," he said.

The competition, the first of its kind ever held by GKJ, is part of festivals held in conjunction with GKJ's 10th anniversary. Other activities include theater and dance performances and traditional art shows, like leather puppets and Wayang Orang Javanese traditional dances. (raw)
