Chinese tourist group in Yogya

YOGYAKARTA: A group of 14 Chinese travel industry professionals and journalists visited Yogyakarta on Friday to learn more about tourism in the province.

Led by the deputy director-general of the China National Tourism Administration's Industry Management Department, Liu Shi Jun, the delegation was received by Yogyakarta Deputy Governor Pakualam IX at his office on Friday.

"This visit is part of our Jakarta-Yogyakarta-Bali trip that has the main objective of getting first-hand information about how tourism can be increased after the tsunami disaster -- how to bring Chinese travelers back to Indonesia," Liu said after the meeting. "I'm sure ... we can help Chinese citizens learn more about the situation in Indonesia and I'm sure they will come back."

Liu suggested the government and travel industry here do more promotion and marketing in China so that Chinese travelers knew what was on offer. -- JP
