Chinese textiles on display

JAKARTA: The Textile Museum on Jl. K.S. Tubun, Central Jakarta, is holding a two week exhibition on antique Chinese fabrics to highlight the influence of the Chinese tradition in the development of Indonesian textiles.

The exhibition will end on Nov. 14, and the museum is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Apart from Chinese fabrics and scarfs, the museum will also display a prized piece called the Eight Gods fabric, which was used especially for praying purposes.

"We hope to be able to widen the public's knowledge of the Chinese influence in our local textiles," said Sukiran Effendi, head of the museum's education section. --JP
