Chinese-Indonesians don't need SBKRI

SURABAYA: Chinese-Indonesians are no longer required to hold a certificate of Indonesian citizenship (SBKRI) if they have a birth certificate, Minister of Justice and Human Rights Yusril Ihza Mahendra said on Wednesday.

"The SBKRI is only for foreigners who enter Indonesia for the first time, and not for their offspring. It is unnecessary for Indonesians who have an identity card, a driving license or another kind of certificate. There are 24 kinds of certificates beside the SBKRI," he said.

Yusril said Chinese-Indonesians should show their birth certificate or any government-recognized identity card if immigration officials asked them to present a SBKRI.

He also said that Chinese-Indonesians should inform the police of immigration officers who insisted on seeing their SKBRI. --Antara
