Chinese artist's work on display

JAKARTA: Liu Guo, a 46-year-old noted Chinese painter, will stage his first solo painting exhibition at Crowne Plaza hotel on Jl. Jend. Gatot Subroto, Central Jakarta, from May 20 to May 29.

The exhibition, titled Spirit Art of China, will feature Liu's landscape paintings on paper using Chinese ink. Most of the paintings depict the mountains, rivers and forests of his homeland.

"Painting natural scenes is my attempt to memorize the beauty of nature, which has now been severely destroyed by reckless human hands," he said.

Vanessa Sutanto of the Vanessa Art House, who organized the exhibition, said the program was part of an exchange of experience and knowledge between artists from Asian countries.

"In the near future, we'll also organize an exhibition of the work of Malaysian artist Ting Cho Chien," she said.

The exhibition will be opened by Barli Sasmitawinata, a senior Indonesian artist. -- JP
