Children to enjoy storytelling festival

JAKARTA: The fifth storytelling festival will take place between July 17 and July 20 at the Bentara Budaya building in Central Jakarta.

The festival will commemorate the upcoming National Children's Day on July 23.

The opening of the festival will be attended by State Minister for Tourism and Culture I Gde Ardika.

Organized by Kelompok Pencinta Bacaan Anak (KPBA), which is an organization for children's book lovers, the festival will feature American storyteller Margaret MacDonald and British Ambassador to Indonesia Richard Gozney.

Local artist Maudy Koesnaedy and puppeteer Sujiwo Tejo will also entertain children at the festival, which has been held since 1998.

Dr. Murti Bunanta, founder and president of KPBA, said the event is held "to tell, express, communicate, create, have fun and be united in story". -- JP
