Children play nature's peacemaker

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, the Kinderland preschool will stage the play Amelia at the Balai Sarbini Concert Hall in Semanggi Plaza on Saturday.

Amelia, played by Selina Leda Ginting, is a hunter's daughter who ventures far into the jungle to become a peacemaker.

The play is set in a forest full of happy animals. However, the animals begin to disappear as they are captured by a hunter, creating much grief in the jungle.

The animals then call on the King of the Jungle, the Lion King, for help. The lion proposes that they capture Amelia in revenge. Once the animals take the girl, she is put in a cage guarded by a gorilla.

But Amelia wins the hearts of the animals and soon is hosting a party to celebrate the full moon.

The final scene sees Amelia being exchanged for the deer and goose that were caught earlier. Amelia is reunited with her father, the hunter, and the animals with their families.

Amelia takes place in four scenes, with each scene featuring students from Kinderland's four direct centers in Jakarta (in Caringin, South Jakarta; Sunrise in West Jakarta; Pulo Mas in East Jakarta; and Bona Vista in South Jakarta).

Kinderland preschool was set up in 1978 in Singapore and opened a franchise in Pondok Indah, South Jakarta, in 1994.
