Chief justice invited to Japan
JAKARTA: The Japanese government issued on Monday an invitation to Supreme Court Chairman Bagir Manan to visit Japan and discuss measures to improve legal cooperation between the two countries.
"The visit aims to discuss what Japan and Indonesia can do together for judicial reform," Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia Yutaka Iimura said on Monday.
Speaking to reporters after meeting President Megawati Soekarnoputri, Iimura said the visit would further assist Indonesia in judicial reform.
"We would like to continue our cooperation in these matters," he said, but did not clarify as to whether Bagir had accepted the invitation. -- JP
