Chicken porridge poisons residents

BEKASI: At least 18 residents of Buwek kampong in Tambun district were rushed to hospital on Saturday with symptoms of food poisoning, Tempointeraktif news portal reported on Saturday.

Eight of them, mostly housewives, had to be hospitalized.

One of the victims, Lili, said that she and some other neighbors had chicken porridge for breakfast which they bought from a vendor they knew.

"But only those who ate chicken porridge mixed with satay made of chicken innards fell sick," she said.

Tambun Police chief Joko Prihanto said that, according to the investigation and the medical examination, the food was not fresh.

"We have detained the vendor for questioning," he said. -- JP
