JAKARTA (JP): A number of major multinational and local
chemical companies are expected to take part in a four-day
international exhibition at the Jakarta Convention Center, the
organizers said on Wednesday.

In a statement, Dwi Karsono from PT Debindo Multi Adhiswati,
an exhibiting company, said that some of the big names that have
pledged their participation in the Sept. 5 to Sept. 8 event
included BASF, Dow Chemical, BP, Lurgi AG, and local players such
as Pertamina, Texmaco, and Indorama.

"Their support reflects high expectations about the future of
our chemical industry," Dwi said.

Hosted jointly by the Ministry of Industry and Trade,
Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Trade, and several chemical
industry associations, the Indonesia International Chemical
Exhibition & Conference 2001, or IICEC'01, will feature products
like petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, plastics and rubber, pulp &
paper, glass, ceramics, cement and agrichemicals.

A conference on the Indonesian chemical industry will be held
