Chemical firms coming to town

JAKARTA (JP): A number of major multinational and local chemical companies are expected to take part in a four-day international exhibition at the Jakarta Convention Center, the organizers said on Wednesday.

In a statement, Dwi Karsono from PT Debindo Multi Adhiswati, an exhibiting company, said that some of the big names that have pledged their participation in the Sept. 5 to Sept. 8 event included BASF, Dow Chemical, BP, Lurgi AG, and local players such as Pertamina, Texmaco, and Indorama.

"Their support reflects high expectations about the future of our chemical industry," Dwi said.

Hosted jointly by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Trade, and several chemical industry associations, the Indonesia International Chemical Exhibition & Conference 2001, or IICEC'01, will feature products like petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, plastics and rubber, pulp & paper, glass, ceramics, cement and agrichemicals.

A conference on the Indonesian chemical industry will be held with several foreign experts and businessmen appearing as speakers. (bsr)
