Check-in at Senayan

I think most people who have reached the age of 60 will probably be able to relate to my experiences. Their children will probably tell you, "Dad, please slow down a little"; your tennis partners will probably tell you not to strain yourself. And then your employer will tell you to take a break -- in other words it's time to retire.

I am sure many of us take these playful insults with an open mind, because in a way they're often correct, even though you don't want to admit it.

Now, besides the above mentioned advice, airline companies such as Garuda and Sempati are also advising senior citizens to take advantage of a 35 percent discount on domestic flights. Do they feel sorry for us? Well, I am sorry for them. Why should I refuse such a generous offer?

For some time Sempati has provided a city check-in center at Senayan stadium. This is convenient for me, because I live close to Senayan. I have always used Sempati, whether on domestic or international flights, although I sometimes get very irritated when the bus driver (dressed so smartly in a tie and shirtsleeves) smokes while driving.

On Monday, Jan. 6, I wanted to check in at the Senayan check- in counter, and was shocked to be told I could only check in at the airport because my ticket was a discounted ticket. Now this I find a massive insult, not a playful one.
