Charity show by Guruh Sukarno
JAKARTA (JP): A performance by Guruh Soekarnoputra, the youngest son of founding president Sukarno, will be held here to raise money for impoverished children, the event organizer said.
Lufti Setia Dharma said the charity night on Nov. 12 at the Gran Melia Hotel in Kuningan, South Jakarta, was expected to raise a significant amount of money, which would be donated to the Child's Eye Foundation.
"All the money collected will go to the foundation, after the performance expenses are deducted," Lufti said at a media conference.
The charity night, called Indonesia My Soul, will feature a fashion show of batik clothes, a performance by Guruh's dance troupe and one of Guruh's musical compositions. Also scheduled to attend the event are a number of popular entertainers, including Chrisye, Aning Katamsi, Shakila and child-star Joshua.
Guruh, a younger brother of Vice President Megawati Soekarnoputri, said he would exhibit and sell his batik designs and clothes, paintings, furniture and jewelry, the first time his artistic creations have been offered for sale.
"This event, true to its name, will reflect the country's soul. The displayed art works, the dance choreography, the venue's decoration, the food... will all show the country's characteristics," Guruh said.
The charity night will be followed by a photo exhibition coordinated by the Child's Eye Foundation. The exhibition will run from Nov. 17 to Nov. 23 at the National Gallery in Central Jakarta. (01)
